In a word, yes!! The job market is tough. Many job seekers are seeking out professional resume writers to help set themselves apart. If you’re going to invest in yourself with a professional resume, why not follow through with a thank you note?
Ever mail a gift to a friend or relative and wonder if they’ve received it? How about the relatives that religiously send Thank You cards? Are you more likely to send them a gift next year for their birthday? I am!! And that’s exactly why job seekers should send thank you notes.
It takes less than 20 minutes to type, print, sign and address a thank you. Even less if you send it via email, although I do recommend mailing it. Just thank the person for their time, add a quick sentence about why you think you’re perfect for the position, and close with something positive like “I look forward to hearing from you in the very near future.”
Will a thank you letter get you the job? No! But neither will a resume. It’s all part of the package. In the most competitive job market we’ve had in years, why not do one simple thing to help the hiring manager remember you and show them that you’r polite, have follow through, and really want the job?
