Get Inspired! Find a career mentor.

I’m not just talking about someone who can guide you in your current position. Seek out a friend, family member, or even acquaintance that you admire for their ambition or accomplishments. Whether someone is in your chosen field isn’t necessarily a make or break. What’s really important is that you find someone who’s opinion, advice, and career ethics are valuable to you.

I have several career mentors. One is a woman I used to work with that is currently pursuing her own resume writing business. She is a valuable resource because I can call on her for an opinion on specific issues and subjects I encounter within my business. My best friend is one of my career mentors as well. She has a background in finance and is, like me, a little bit of a maverick. Now pursuing her own financial freedom in real estate, she’s driven, innovative, and incredibly smart with money. The smart with money thing is a real inspiration to me so I often call on her wisdom.

I encounter people every day who have great advice, and force myself to remain open to their ideas, whether or not I decide to internalize them for my own life. The path to success is paved with the wisdom of those around you. You never know when you’ll hear the piece of advice that inspires you to make your next great move. The key is remain open and allow yourself to really hear what others are trying to tell you.
